A little about me

I am a highly qualified and experienced therapist with over twenty years in clinical practice. I have extensive experience in delivering a range of effective therapeutic interventions that address mild and moderate mental and emotional health issues. I offer a compassionate, empathetic and client centred approach to therapy, but one that is grounded in a multidisciplinary understanding of psychology. I am passionately committed to offering clients the tools, support and insights that they need to most effectively help themselves.

One size does not fit all and so I have undertaken unique postgraduate research on the most effective treatments for a wide range of emotional conditions. Research that I followed up with further training to enable me to offer a number of therapeutic interventions tuned to specific individual needs. This gives me the ability to respond in an agile and effective manner to the emotional needs of my clients.

I began my career with a dual focus on caring and education; this dual focus remains at the heart of my practice. My first degree, psychology with sociology, inspired me to become a therapist and I initially trained in psychotherapy, registering with the NRHP. I then undertook further training as a counsellor and registered with the UKCP. Pursuing an interest in comparing the effectiveness of a range of therapeutic interventions, including CBT and hypnotherapy, I undertook an MSc that helped me to combine several therapeutic approaches and begin to develop the seamless integrated approach that is now my speciality.

My developing practice led to a renewed interest in the causes of stress and, after a further period of training, I registered with the ISMA and began offering a stress management service to industry. Returning to education, I undertook a further advanced post graduate diploma in psychotherapy allowing me to reflect on a decade of practice within a structured environment. I also began supervising other therapists.

More recently, I started a family and relocated to Kent. While sharing childcare with my husband, I maintain my London and industrial practice, whilst building my clinical practice in Kent. During this transition, I discovered that some of my clients found telephone or VOIP consultations preferable to face to face meetings. As a result I now offer telephone and internet services for those who are unable to, or who would rather not, visit a clinic.

A brief interview...

How did you become interested in Psychotherapy?
I was always interested in the mind; what it was, how it worked and how life influenced it. I studied psychology as an undergraduate and researched it as a postgraduate. From there, it was a seamless side step into Psychotherapy. I was keen to understand how we could shape our minds and lives. What we could do to make things different or better.

What is the best part of your work?
The best part of my work is helping to make a positive difference to peoples' lives. This can take many forms, including realisation, understanding, change, awareness and acceptance.

What’s the best advice you have ever received?
The best advice I’ve ever received is - “Sometimes, it’s not what has happened that matters, it’s what you do next.” This simple realisation has made a huge difference to me.

What do you love most about yourself?
What I love most about myself is how passionate I am about life; I never forget how precious life is but how lightly we must hold it.

Interests
Sarah is the mother of two young children who runs and organises a weekly playgroup. She is a Grade Seven pianist who composes for pleasure. Sarah is also working towards her Black Belt in Kick Boxing

On reflection I remember that I had almost crawled into Sarah’s room seeking some relief from my pain
